Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) Courses for 2026-2027
The Excellence Center in Jordan is pleased to announce a wide range of flexible and personalized Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) programs—offering summer intensives, winter Arabic sessions, and online classes—throughout the 2026-2027 academic year.
Our courses are delivered through one-on-one online lessons, small group classes, or private in-person sessions in Amman. This structure ensures an immersive and adaptable learning experience that meets the needs of learners at all levels. MSA, the standardized formal Arabic used across the Arab world, provides the essential foundation for mastering the language and enables students to better understand various regional dialects.

Arabic Classes from One Week to Three Months
The Excellence Center offers intensive Arabic programs year-round—spring, summer, fall, and winter—ranging from one week to three months in duration. Students select their start dates and course levels to match their academic goals and personal schedule.
Summer is our peak season, attracting the largest number of international learners. During this period, we provide expanded intensive Arabic programs running from late June to late September.
Our four-week Modern Standard Arabic Intensive Program includes 4–6 hours of daily instruction, 5 days a week, for a total of 80 lesson hours per month. This structure offers deep immersion in both the Arabic language and Jordanian culture, with the option to extend the program up to three consecutive months. As with all our courses, the summer program is tailored to each student’s level, learning preferences, and availability.
All Modern Standard Arabic immersion classes are kept small—never more than five students—to ensure personalized attention, strong peer interaction, and close engagement with our experienced Arabic teachers inside and outside the classroom.
What Are the Courses Like?
The Excellence Center offers Modern Standard Arabic courses across six levels: Beginner, Elementary 1 or 2, Intermediate 1 or 2, and Advanced. Each level is available in intensive, super-intensive, or non-intensive formats, with variations in weekly instructional hours and the depth of cultural immersion.
Courses are available year-round and carry no strict application deadlines, allowing students to begin or continue their MSA learning whenever it best aligns with their academic or professional plans.
Classical or Modern Standard Arabic?
Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and Classical Arabic are often confused, though they serve different purposes. Classical Arabic—often referred to as Quranic Arabic—dates back to the 7th century and represents the linguistic form used in early Islamic scripture. Modern Standard Arabic is derived from Classical Arabic but differs slightly in style, vocabulary, and usage.
Both varieties fall under the broader category of Fus’ha. By enrolling in the MSA Program at t, students gain a solid foundation in formal Arabic, enabling them to access modern literature, academic texts, and, with further study, classical and Quranic Arabic as well.

How Will Courses Be Conducted?
Students enrolled in the Excellence Center’s intensive Modern Standard Arabic Program will develop a strong command of Arabic through a fully immersive experience that introduces them to Jordanian culture, daily life, and local customs. Throughout the program, students have numerous opportunities to practice their language skills with native speakers in Amman and beyond.
Our Modern Standard Arabic courses are offered in two formats: private one-on-one lessons for a highly personalized learning experience, and small group classes—typically two or three students—which encourage structured interaction among peers at similar proficiency levels. This collaborative setting often helps learners progress more confidently and naturally.
All students are welcome to practice Arabic together, work on group projects, and join class outings or cultural excursions organized by the school. While courses are designed with English speakers in mind, higher-level Arabic classes increasingly reduce the use of English to maximize immersion.
Why Study Modern Standard Arabic?
Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) is the ideal choice for learners seeking a solid linguistic foundation and planning to explore regional dialects later on. MSA is the standardized form of Arabic taught in schools across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and is widely used in formal communication.
Because of its universal reach across the Arab world, MSA is the key to accessing literature, media, international relations, academia, and business. Mastering MSA opens the door to the Arabic-speaking world and provides strong preparation for future professional, academic, or diplomatic opportunities.

What’s the Difference Between Course Intensities?
Please note that course intensities refer to the frequency of classes, number of classes, amount of assigned homework, and level of immersion, which differ from course levels. Please find below the Arabic Course intensities available at the Excellence Center:
1. Non-Intensive Modern Standard Arabic Course
If you are interested in a long-term intensive MSA program of 1-3 months, we recommend that students enroll in a non-intensive course. This will provide plenty of in-class instruction(4 lesson hours* per day, 3 days a week) while still leaving ample time to explore the city of Amman and immerse yourself in Jordanian culture.
2. Intensive Modern Standard Arabic Course
The intensive Modern Standard Arabic course is designed to further immerse students in the Arabic language and culture. These courses are held five days a week for approximately 4 lesson hours* each day, totaling about 20 lesson hours* per week. Intensive Arabic courses also include additional homework and out-of-classroom assignments for participants.
3. Super-Intensive Modern Standard Arabic Course
Finally, our super-intensive courses are designed for students who are looking for an accelerated Arabic course in a completely immersive, high-intensity classroom setting. Super-intensive Arabic courses are conducted 5 days a week at 6 lesson hours* of instruction per day, totaling approximately 30 lesson hours* per week. We recommend that those studying for less than a month enroll in this program.
* Please note that 1 lesson hour = 45 minutes.
